When we consider the role that clothing has played in society, it appears to be in direct opposition to the goals of yoga.

By design, clothing reminds us of the ways in which we are different. It serves as a distraction that leads us away from a central yogic principal of the commonality of all living things, which can contribute to peace and compassion amongst people.

Loose fitting clothing allows for the greatest range of movement of the body and clothing that exposes the greatest amount of bone and muscle of the skeletal system so that a teacher can view the student and make appropriate adjustments.

For the yogi the choice is to open up and transform rather than become more rigid and tight.

The aim of yoga is to unveil the fullness that we are. Through a right understanding of our human condition, a clear sight of the goal of life and with a proper use of the knowledge handed over to us by the sages, we can start a safe and successful journey back to freedom.

The physical techniques of Yoga are the stepping stones to meditation. According to Patanjali, Yoga is the cessation of the modifications of the mind.

In the beginning the primary prerequisite to peace of mind is posture. yoga poses are practiced to gain steady posture, health and lightness in the body. All yoga poses are intended to directly or indirectly quiet the mind. The purpose of the yoga poses is to recondition the system, both mind and body, and

Yoga is a method that aims to achieve the maximum results with the minimum expenditure of energy. The different yoga poses have been devised to bring a rich supply of blood to the brain and to the various parts of the spinal column. The yoga asana work by stretching, bending and twisting the spinal column in different directions to promote the health of the nerves.

All excess moisture needs to be eliminated from the body, especially from the joints. The less moisture present, the easier the postures become and the body is subjected to less pain. When the body is purified, Prana (vital energy) can be conserved and the individual becomes healthy and conscious.
